If something isn’t important at all to you, how much weight does it carry or how much do you concern yourself with it?
If something is moderately important to you, how much weight does it carry or how much do you concern yourself with it?
If something is extremely important to you, how much weight does it carry or how much do you concern yourself with it?
I know these seem like very simplistic questions, but your answer is crucial to whether you will experience the Kingdom of God. What is in the Kingdom? In what is commonly known as the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus tells us. He says to pray “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matt: 6:10
The Kingdom of God is whatever is true in Heaven. Jesus said we are to pray for that to be done on Earth. There are many scriptures that tell us what the benefits of the Kingdom are (great and precious promises-2 Peter 1:4), but it all begins with relationship with the Father. And if you have that, you will also begin to experience His life, His love, and His power in your life. That is why Jesus said to first-over everything else, put your focus, your priority on seeking the Kingdom of God.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power. 1 Corinthians 4:20
One day the Pharisees asked Jesus, “When will the Kingdom of God come?” Jesus replied, “The Kingdom of God can’t be detected by visible signs. You won’t be able to say, ‘Here it is!’ or ‘It’s over there!’ For the Kingdom of God is already among you.” Luke 17:20-21
Shifting your focus: Look at those questions again. Use them to help you honestly evaluate what you have been focusing on in your life. Be careful not to fall into the trap of thinking something is a priority simply because you want it to be or know it should be. As it is now, today, what are you giving most of your time and your attention to?
In that list, where would you place your relationship with God? Do you truly value it? If so, you would be spending quality and quantity time cultivating it, and even over many other ‘priorities.’ You can see that this is true, by looking at what you have been spending your time, attention and energy on, what you truly value. But if you want your life to reflect the abundant life of Christ (John 10:10) in the Kingdom, all you have to do is to seek it. How do you do that? Intimacy with God. Knowing Him through His Word, in fellowship, and choosing to live your life from a Kingdom mindset (faith). You can start where you’re at. Start today. Shift your focus, and make cultivating your relationship with your Father your first priority.
